A St. Joseph family is fighting to afford life-saving treatment for their newborn twin boys. Amanda and Austin Reed welcomed their twins on March 31 and shortly after learned they were diagnosed with the rare genetic condition called spinal muscular atrophy. Amanda is a nurse at Mosaic Life Care at St. Joseph and has the companies medical insurance. The gene therapy treatment, which cost $2.1 million per child, has been denied by insurance. The family left to front the cost themselves and a GoFundMe has been started.
Northwest Missouri Missouri State University held multiple commencement ceremonies over the week. The university celebrated the graduation of 1,377 students, ranging from ages 19 to 61. Of those students, there were 720 bachelor’s degrees, 537 master’s degrees and 116 education specialist degrees awarded, according to the press release,
The City of Maryville and Public Works Department is in the process of completing a service line inventory for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. They are asking for assistance from the public to help with the inventory of water service line materials. Customers who complete the survey on the City’s website and submit the form by June 15 will receive a $20 credit to a future utility bill.
