The Nodaway County Historical Society and Museum is hosting a barbecue fundraiser in August 30. The event will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the museum. The meal, which consists of pulled pork, baked beans, sides and desserts, will be $10 a plate and carryout will be available.
Northwest Missouri State University head track and field coach Brandon Masters named Tanner Berg the program’s new throws coach. Berg was a volunteer assistant coach at Kansas State University for the past two seasons.
The Spoofhound football team will play at Raytown South High School on August 23 for the football jamboree. The Hounds will face Center, Raytown South and William Chrisman at 6 p.m.

A new shop opened this past week in St. Joseph for chocolate and coffee lovers. Chocolat is located at 1207 Frederick Ave. and specializes in coffee, pastries and chocolate. The shop is open each day from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Clarinda Chamber of Commerce and the Clarinda Ambassadors will host a Ribbon Cutting for El Sarape at 216 North 16th Street in Clarinda on August 27 at 4 p.m. The chamber invites the public to meet outside El Sarape for an introduction and ribbon cutting.
Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors named Maryville Florists the August Business of the Month. Owned and operated by Keitha Clapp, it offers delivery to all of Nodaway County and has many flower and gift options.The nomination, said the store provides excellent customer service and beautiful work.
Mosaic Medical Center – Maryville’s Leah Gard was named the hospital’s winner of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is given with the DAISY Foundation to recognize nurses who go above and beyond. Gard was nominated by a coworker for helping first-time parents in the emergency room.
St. Joseph City Council approved an agreement with American Ramp Company to help design and build a new pump track at Huston-Wyeth Park. The project will be constructed with $347,395 of transient guest tax funds. It will replace the existing dirt pump track at the park with a hard surface track.
The St. Joseph Christian School Fine Arts Boosters will host the 8th annual car, trucks and bike show on August 24. The event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Frederick Boulevard Church in St Joe. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and the entry fee is $15.
