A new shop opened this past week in St. Joseph for chocolate and coffee lovers. Chocolat is located at 1207 Frederick Ave. and specializes in coffee, pastries and chocolate. The shop is open each day from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Clarinda Chamber of Commerce and the Clarinda Ambassadors will host a Ribbon Cutting for El Sarape at 216 North 16th Street in Clarinda on August 27 at 4 p.m. The chamber invites the public to meet outside El Sarape for an introduction and ribbon cutting.

Mosaic Medical Center – Maryville’s Leah Gard was named the hospital’s winner of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is given with the DAISY Foundation to recognize nurses who go above and beyond. Gard was nominated by a coworker for helping first-time parents in the emergency room.
St. Joseph City Council approved an agreement with American Ramp Company to help design and build a new pump track at Huston-Wyeth Park. The project will be constructed with $347,395 of transient guest tax funds. It will replace the existing dirt pump track at the park with a hard surface track.
The St. Joseph Christian School Fine Arts Boosters will host the 8th annual car, trucks and bike show on August 24. The event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Frederick Boulevard Church in St Joe. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and the entry fee is $15.
Local school districts and student will be returning to the classrooms this week. North Nodaway’s first day will be August 21. Maryville, West Nodaway, South Nodaway, Jefferson C-123, Northeast Nodaway and Nodaway-Holt will return on August 20.

The Missouri Prairie Foundation m awarded Northwest Missouri State University a $800 grant to for native plants and seeds from Missouri Prairie Foundation. It will help plant a native prairie flower garden near the Dean L. Hubbard Center for Innovation.
