Delays in opening the FAFSA online for college bound students to apply for student aid have left many concerned that they will not receive financial aid offers before deciding where to go to college. FAFSA, which stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is usually launched on Oct. 1, but last year the U.S Department of Education announced that the application would be available on Dec. 31st. Since the form went live, fewer than five million forms have been submitted. That’s less than 1/3 rd of the 18 million forms submitted during the 2020 to 2021 application cycle. Filing in the State of Missouri is down by 38% this year sending a message that not as many high school graduates will be headed to college in the fall.
