Northwest Missouri State University Regents have met and approved a 2024-2025 raise in tuition with a vote of 6-1 in favor of a 4.2% rate increase. Room rates will also see an increase between $260 and $320 annually depending on the residence hall that is selected. Meal plans will cost between $140 and $182 depending on the plan selected as well. Other increases approved are a dollar increase for technology fee and a textbook fee will go up 50 cents per credit hour.
The City of Burlington Junction is under a boil advisory until April 10th. A water main break Yesterday afternoon led to the advisory. Officials are asking residents to turn on all their faucets to help push the air out of the distribution lines. Updates will be posted on the City of Burlington Junction’s Facebook page.
Filing for the August primaries closed on March 26th. All candidates that filed for the open positions are republican with the exception of Rex Wallace for assessor who is the incumbent. Nodaway County commissioner Chris Burns, an incumbent, will run unopposed.South Commissioner Scott Walk, an incumbent, will run against Jason Weir. Nodaway County Sheriff has 3 candidates vying to replace retiring Sheriff Randy Strong as Austin Hann, Darren White and Adam James are running for sheriff. Lori Burns will run for Public Administrator. Amber Newham, Sally Duff and Sonja Stiens will run for Collector/ Treasurer. With Vince Shelby vacating as Coroner, David Merrill and Jeff Hall have thrown their hats in the ring and Adam Teale will run for Surveyor.
