It’s National Agriculture Week! Most everything we eat, wear and use everyday can be sourced from agriculture. Not to mention the emerging technology with fuel and bio products. Missouri is home to 90,000 farms and 27 million acres of farmland. 90% of which is family owned.
Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, who is currently running for governor, wants to end Missouri’s income tax, which provides two out of every three dollars in the state’s general revenue fund. Ashcroft admits that this won’t happen overnight but it should be on the state’s peripheral. Also included in Ashcroft’s plan is to repeal the 12.5-cents per gallon fuel tax increase enacted in 2021. That increase is being phased in at 2.5 cents per year. So far, 7.5 cents has taken effect, with another 2.5 cents per gallon to be added July 1 and again on July 1, 2025.
