A 23-year-old Kansas City, Kansas man drowned in Smithville Lake near the Route W bridge on Saturday evening after going underwater while swimming without a life vest. His body was recovered Sunday morning by water patrol crews. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A, assisted by Cpl. B.V. Cole and the Smithville Fire Department, responded to the incident.
