The Maryville Fire department was called to a structure fire over the weekend. Responders answered a call to what was formerly known as the Village O apartments. 7 of the 16 plex apartment occupants were trapped on the 2nd floor and were rescued by fire and police personnel. Firefighters spent 7 hours putting the blaze out and another three doing site clean up. All of the displaced residents were assisted by the Red Cross. Between the Maryville Fire Department, Jackson Township and west Nodaway fire districts almost 300 volunteer hours were provided by their committed responders to fight the fire.
Google has made a significant investment in Missouri with a new $1 billion data center to be located in Kansas City. Google’s data centers support the popular digital services used by consumers and organizations globally. This expansion of Google’s technical infrastructure will bring an estimated 1300 new jobs to the area.
Next Tuesday is election day for local candidates and for voting on other important propositions. Voter turnout has been a concern for this election. Maryville has 2 propositions on the ballot in addition to City Council, School Board and Nodaway county Health Board election of candidates.
