This week is Public Schools week! The perfect time to say thank you to the teachers and staff at our area schools. They work hard to provide all students access to opportunities that encourage learning and growth. Thank you to all of you who are in education, you are appreciated!
Nocomo Industries is doing a month-long event in March called NOCOMO MADNESS! For the whole month they are holding a drive to collect as much recycling as possible. Their goal is 3000 pounds of cardboard and 400 pounds of aluminum cans. You can drop off these items at 319 S Newton Street in Maryville. Join in on the madness and help Nocomo meet their goal!
VOTE 2024 kicks off with the April 2nd elections. On the ballot will be a ⅜ of a cent sales tax increase supporting consolidating 9-1-1 emergency dispatch services. This infrastructure improvement is essential to hiring and retaining trained staff and increased citizen and responder safety. Included with this increase is the application of Next Gen 911. 75% of 9-1-1 calls in the US are made from wireless devices. Next Gen 911 allows for the exchange of voice, photos, videos and even text messages with responders. Putting the increase into context as to the impact on consumers, a $15 pizza would have an additional 6 cents tax. For a $2.50 cup of coffee the impact is 1 cent. A $100 worth of groceries is 38 cents. To learn more about this ballot item go to maryville.org/911.
