Head basketball coach Ben McCollum was voted the MIAA Coach of the Year for the ninth time. McCullom led the Bearcats to the program’s 24th overall MIAA regular season title and the 12th of his coaching career in Maryville. Northwest has won 11 consecutive MIAA regular season championships and ranks No. 2 in the nation in scoring defense.
A bill to protect politicians from deep fake” images and recordings received support Wednesday in the Missouri House. Representative Ben Baker is sponsoring a bill to prohibit distribution of digitally created or manipulated messages without being labeled as artificial intelligence. Offenders would face 6 months in jail with increased penalties if the intent was to incite violence or bodily harm and for repeat offenders. The bill also allows targets of fake or deceptive videos the right to sue the creators. The bill is waiting for a final roll call vote before being sent to the Missouri Senate.
Maryville RII will be hosting open houses for the JUMP proposition, a no tax increase bond that will be on the April 2 ballot. The scheduled open houses are March 11 from 6 to 8 pm at Eugene Field Elementary and Early Childhood Center , March 18th from 5:30 to 6: 30 at Maryville Middle School and March 18th from 6:30 to 8: 30 at the Maryville High School.
