Voter turnout for the Municipal election on April 2nd beat last year’s turnout by almost 10%. Melinda Patton tells Nodaway News Radio that voter turnout for April Elections are usually 30% of registered voters or less. Tuesday’s turn out came in at 22.51%.
With the Primary elections coming up on Tuesday, August 6th, candidates for State Representative, County Commissioner, Nodaway County Sheriff, coroner, Public Administrator, collector/treasurer and surveyor will all be on the ballot. The forum for these candidates is usually the Thursday night of the Nodaway County Fair. If you are not a registered voter you can do so by July 10th and still be able to participate. King City resident Michelle Horner has filed to run against Jeff Farnan for House District 1 State Representative. Horner, a Republican who ran unsuccessfully against Farnan in 2022, is the only challenger. No democrat challenger filed before the deadline that has now passed.
