The St. Joseph organization Latinos Connect is moving its annual public Hispanic Heritage Month celebration to a private dinner this year due to what its founder describes as pervasive fear in the community. The decision stems from concerns over unjust profiling and cuts to multilingual services, creating an environment where people feel unsafe gathering publicly, regardless of their immigration status. The private event will now serve as a fundraiser to support community mobility and mental health resources for Spanish-speaking individuals.
