The Nodaway County Fair Board has announced this year’s theme, through a collaboration with the local 4H group this year will be “The Tradition Lives On”. The dates for the 2024 Nodaway County Fair are July 11, 12 and 13th. The board has made some change-ups to the itinerary that they hope will attract more audience members to the stage area. The Department of Agriculture has released a report stating that the size of the overall U.S. beef cattle herd has continued to decline since 1975, The US beef cattle inventory hit a record 61 year low in 2024 according to the US Department of Agriculture. Half of our nation’s top 10 beef producing states that are responsible for nearly 60% of the US’s beef production have reported the lowest number of cattle since 1995. Reasons for the decline range from the expanding global market to dealing with drought issues. Current research shows climate change has caused more frequent large rainfall events coupled with months of zero precipitation. This volatility has made relying on typical weather patterns and grazing conditions difficult for the nation’s beef producers.
Skidmore will have two food drops this month. The Fresh mobile food drop will be on Thursday March 28th from 10am to noon and a regular food drop will be Friday March 29th from 4-5:30pm. The line will begin from the top of 113 going east to Newton Hall.
